ABOUT OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a public University in Nigeria, based in Ile-Ife, Osun State. It was founded in 1962 as the second university in the Western region of the country, and has since acquired global reputation for academic excellence, outstanding research, technology adoption and exceptional human resource. It boasts of well-designed environment, a wide range of infrastructure and research facilities, from its 2500-capacity and 300, 000-titles library to university-wide internet access, up to 183mbps in every block.. Obafemi Awolowo University is far ahead in medical research and development with its Teaching Hospital Complex, where the first procedure to separate Siamese twins was performed in Nigeria. The University has been a recipient of both domestic and global recognition for innovation in research, medical science and technological.
OAU offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. With 13 faculties in Administration, Agriculture, Arts, Education, Environmental Design and Management, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dentistry, Law, Pharmacy, Sciences, Technology and Social Sciences, the university offers over 108 courses. It also has specialised centers namely Regional Centre for Training in Aerospace Surveys, The National central for Technology Management and The Centre for Energy Research and Development, which adds to nine other units within the university.
