The University of Jos, also called UNIJOS, is a Federal Government-owned degree-awarding institution. The University was founded in 1975, and sited in Jos, the capital city of Plateau State, Nigeria. Since its inception, UNIJOs has been at the forefront of innovative learning and social development in its host environment. With many reputed names and high-profile Nigerians coming from its walls, the University of Jos has credibly been providing education that is globally competitive and relevant to the needs of today's employer and the developing challenges of the country and beyond.
The University offers more than 100 undergraduate, post-graduate course, diploma and certificate courses across its twelve faculties, namely Arts. Agriculture, Education, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Law, Management Sciences, Medical Sciences, Natural Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Social Sciences and Veterinary Medicine. In addition to these are award-winning centres such as the African Centre of Excellence on Phytomedicine Research and Development (ACEPRD), Center for Nomadic Education, Centre for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Centre for Conflict Management and Peace Studies, Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies, and the Centre for Gender and Women Studies.
