Course Overview

BSc Microbiology is an undergraduate programme of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi. It examines microorganisms and the pathogenic potential of these organisms that cause disease in man. The course covers different aspects of medical microbiology, including identification and control of pathogens, disease transmission, host resistance, and immunity. Students will learn about microorganisms and their impacts on human anatomy. Other topics include disease processes, sterile techniques, and the biology of bacteria, viruses, protozoa and fungi.
By completing the degree programme, you will be able to complement other health professionals to proactively stem diseases. You will be involved in industrial exploration of microbes in the production of food, and in identifying disease causatives, what fuels their existence and how to eradicate them. Medical professionals will trust your capacity to determine probabilities of disease occurrence, and use your knowledge to prevent it or recommend appropriate treatments.

Admission Criteria

Direct Entry
  • National Diploma with at least Upper Credit in relevant programmes
  • NCE with minimum of Merit passes in two (2) teaching subjects.

  • Five O’Level Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
  • UTME subjects must also include English Language and any three science subjects from Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics
